J. Preston Landing, 38, of Marion, was killed instantly at Loretta Crossing when a Ford truck which he was driving was struck by a passenger train. A freight had cleared the crossing and Landing who was hard hearing, thought the track was cleared. Mr. Landing had only been married two years. He was survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. John T. Landing, of Marion, two brothers, Clarence Landing of Salisbury and Marion Landing, of a Western State, and a sister, Miss Rose Landing of Washington.

"When news of the accident was received, expressions of regret were universal, the county over, as Mr. Landon was a young man of the highest character and held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was a man of great promise and his quiet dignity, gentlemanly courtesy, earnestness and intelligence, drew to him a large circle of friends and acquaintances who received the news of his death with genuine sorrow.

About two years ago Mr. Landon was married to Miss Margaret Ervin, of Baltimore. He is also survived by his aged mother, who resided with him, a sister, Miss Rose Landon of Wilmington, Del., and two brothers, Clarence Landing of Salisbury, and Marion Landing of Battle Creek, Mich.

Funeral services were held at Grace M. E. Church, Marion Thursday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Biscoff, of the Rehoboth Presbyterian church. Interment was made at St. Pauls cemetery. The funeral was in charge of Chesapeake Lodge A. F. & A. M., of which the deceased was a member."
