I am currently working on eleven different LANDING family histories [385+ identified LANDING names], see the menu above "CURRENT RESEARCH LANDING Families by State" for more details about these LANDING families.
The oldest United States record/reference of a LANDING name that I have been able to locate is for Joyce LANDING. Joyce LANDING was transported to Calvert County, Maryland by Robert Lashley from parts unknown in 1667. I have found two different references for Joyce LANDING. First, I found her listed in "Early Settlers of Maryland" by Skordas. The book was in the Fairfax Regional Library in Fairfax, VA. It says she came over to America on a boat that landed in Baltimore harbor, Maryland in 1667. Joyce LANDING is listed on Liber 15, Folio 439. The second reference for Joyce LANDING is:
Jan 17th 1677 Came Robert Lashley of Calvert County and proved rights to six hundred acres of land for transporting himself Roli Koc John Howard, Mary Thompson about thirteen years since, John North, Joyce LANDING John Bassell about ten years since, William Sash, Richard Powell, Thomas Price, Roger George, and Owen Simons into this provience to inhabite. Warrent then granted to Robert Lashley for six hundred acres of land due ut supra.
I believe both of these references refer to the same Joyce LANDING. The first reference says that Joyce LANDING came to Calvert County but the second reference indicates that Robert Lashley was from Calvert County and not necessarly that Joyce LANDING was from Calvert County.
One afternoon in the Annandale, Virginia, Family History Center I looked through all the AIS Microfiche they had for every country to see if I could find any LANDINGs in any of the countries. I only found the following two entries in Germany:
LANDING, Joannes Mattheus Christened 14 Sep 1698
Place: PR, RHEINHESSEN, GEMUENDEN HUNSRUCK, KATHOLISCH
Parents: Joannis Jacobi LANDING/Mariae
LANDING, Petrus Christened 26 Nov 1805
Place: BAYERN, PFALZ, DIRMSTEIN, KATHOLISCH
Parents: Michaelis LANDING/Magdalenae
From the above two entrys it would appear that there was a family in Germany with the last name of LANDING that had at least one child in 1698 whose name was Joannes Mattheus LANDING. There also appears to be a second family (may or may not have been related to the first family) in Germany in 1805.
